Contract Breakdown: De’Aaron Fox Signs Extension with the Spurs

Team: San Antonio Spurs

Extension: 4-Year 229 million extension

The San Antonio Spurs are locking in their new star backcourt leader, signing De’Aaron Fox to a long-term extension that cements him as a core piece alongside Victor Wembanyama. After trading for Fox earlier this season, the Spurs wasted no time making sure he’s part of their long term future.

Fox is coming off another strong season where he averaged over 23.5 points and 6.3 assists per game, showcasing elite speed, improved shot-making, and better decision-making as a lead guard. Now paired with Wembanyama, this extension signals San Antonio’s shift from rebuilding to ready to compete.

However there are many concerts with other Spurs players, specifically Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper. Both point guards' games do not compliment Fox. However these 2 are too good of players to be moved to role players. We will have to see how the Spurs handle their rotation with 3 elite point guards on their roster. The Spurs are currently under a lot of pressure to build a competitive roster around Victor Wembanyama, as you do not want to waste any years with a player like that on your roster.
