Roster Move: Wizards Sign Sharife Cooper
Team: Washington Wizards
Contract: (Reported short-term deal)
The Washington Wizards have added guard Sharife Cooper, but honestly, this move doesn’t make much sense for a team in their position. Cooper has bounced around the league since being drafted, struggling to establish himself as a reliable NBA contributor. While he’s shown flashes of scoring in the G League, his lack of size, efficiency, and defensive impact have kept him from sticking on a real NBA rotation.
For the Wizards, this feels more like a placeholder move than a step forward. Washington is supposed to be rebuilding and focusing on young players with real long-term upside — but Cooper hasn’t proven he’s that guy. He’s undersized, streaky as a shooter, and hasn’t shown the ability to run an offense consistently at the NBA level.
It’s hard to see how this signing helps the Wizards’ future or even their present. Unless Cooper suddenly makes a massive leap, this looks like just another short-term flyer for a team still struggling to find direction.
Verdict: A puzzling signing for Washington that likely won’t move the needle. The Wizards need real building blocks — and Sharife Cooper just doesn’t look like one.
