Boston receives: Anfernee Simons and 2 second-round picks
Trail Blazers receives: Jrue Holiday
I think this trade benefited the Celtics. The Celtics added young talent Anfernee Simons to their roster. Anfernee Simons is extension-eligible despite getting traded for three years, $104.6 million over the next six months. The Celtics also traded Porzingis, which along with Jrue Holiday will put them $4.5 million under the second apron. Along with Simons, the Celtics also received 2 second round picks for Holiday which is great for their future. I don’t think that Holiday is worth nearly as much as what the Trail Blazers paid for him. Overall the Celtics front office made a great move trading holiday and receiving young talent and picks, while also getting under the second apron. This past season Simons averaged 19.3 points along with 4.8 assists on 42.6% from the field.
The Blazers definitely got the worse end of the deal. Holiday just had his worst season in 7 years, averaging 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and shooting 44.3% from the floor. Not to mention that Holiday is 34 and probably won’t increase those numbers as time passes. This seems like a win now type of move but I just don’t think the Trail Blazers are in that position yet. Holiday is also under contract for the next 3 years and will be paid $32,400,000 next season. I think that the Trail Blazers will reroute him to a different team later in the offseason because I just really don’t see a point in keeping Holiday right now. Also Portland massively overpaid also sending 2 second round picks to the Celtics and sent their top young star.
